Work-in-Progress (WiP) Papers: up to 4 double-column pages, following the IEEE conference template.

Demonstration Paper: up to 6 double-column pages, following the IEEE conference template.

All accepted regular, special session, and WiP papers that will be presented at the conference will be published in IEEE proceedings and will appear in IEEE Xplore.

Call for Special Sessions

Special Sessions complement the main technical program by focusing on emerging or specialized topics within the scope of WFCS. They provide a platform to explore new research directions, bring together experts on targeted themes, and foster discussion on current challenges in factory communication systems.

Building on the strong participation and quality of previous editions, WFCS 2027 invites proposals for Special Sessions addressing focused and timely topics aligned with the conference areas.

The special session proposals should be submitted using the official template:
link to the template

These are some guidelines for a successful special session proposal and the subsequent successful session:

  • Clear topic definition aligned with WFCS scope
  • Relevance and timeliness of the topic for the research community
  • Well-defined objectives and expected impact
  • Identification of organizers with recognized expertise in the area
  • Identify a preliminary list of candidate authors, research groups, departments, or institutions willing to submit papers to the Special Session, ensuring the viability of the session
  • Sufficient expected number of high-quality papers should be envisaged (typically, 4 papers should be enough to form at least one full session)
  • Distinctiveness from regular sessions (focused, emerging, or niche topic)
  • Commitment of organizers to manage the review process and session coordination

Proposals not meeting critical mass or quality expectations may be merged or not included in the final program.

The deadline for Special Session proposals is November 17, 2026.

Initial Manuscript Submission

Initial Author Instructions - Full Paper Preparation, Technical Tracks, Special Session and Workshop Papers

Authors are invited to submit full regular papers (6-8 pages) of their work, reporting original research using the online submission system. The working language of the conference is English. Regular papers are typically 6-8 pages long, and are limited to a maximum of eight (8) pages. Submissions of papers shorter than 5 pages may be automatically rejected.

The author must submit the draft version of the paper for review before the due submission deadline (link to important dates). Authors of accepted papers must submit the final paper version according to the deadline, register for the conference, and attend to present their paper(s). The maximum length for final papers is 8 pages without exception.

IEEE is strict about the requirements for PDF files for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library. We strongly recommend using the set of TEMPLATES IN MS Word and LaTeX provided by IEEE. Please use them to create your paper, without modifying the style or format under any circumstances. A4 page size is preferred, and letter size can also be used. To learn more about formatting papers for IEEE IES conferences, please visit this page. We will be checking PDF compliance internally through our software.

Use of the IEEE PDF eXpress service will only be required and made available for the final version of accepted papers. This service allows you to transform your document from a text editor to PDF format, as well as check the conformance of any PDF file to IEEE formatting rules. The number of attempts provided to each author is limited, so reserve its use for the final version of your paper. When using this service, the conference ID will need to be specified - the WFCS 2027 conference ID will be made public once the submission of final papers opens.

Please ensure that you submit only original work that has not been previously published or copyrighted. As a prospective author, you are expected to submit only your own original work. The Conference will be using the CrossCheck automated screening system to verify the originality of papers. Submitted works may be compared to over 20 million articles in databases worldwide. Papers that violate IEEE’s publication principles may be summarily rejected. If the violation is deemed severe, disciplinary actions may also be taken by IEEE.

Call for Work-in-Progress (WiP) Papers

The submissions in the Work in Progress papers category describe research that has not yet produced the results required for a regular paper, but that, due to its novelty and potential impact, deserves to be shared with the community at an early stage. These submissions need to follow the guidelines for the regular session, but are limited to four (4) pages (total length including references).

WiP contributors are expected to give a short presentation of their work and to prepare a poster for the discussion forum that will take place after the presentations. More specifically, each WiP paper shall be presented by one of the authors in a very short oral presentation of 5 minutes, without any ensuing discussion, in its respective session.

Accepted and presented papers will be copyrighted to IEEE and published in conference proceedings and in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library.

Call for Demonstration Papers

Prospective contributors are expected to submit a demo proposal in the form of a 6-page paper, including an architecture description and an illustration of the elements that will be demonstrated. All submissions must be written in English and use the standard IEEE two-column conference template.

An accompanying separate document should also describe the demo set-up details and requirements, e.g., with regard to electricity, internet access, etc.

The demo proposals will be reviewed by the IEEE WFCS 2026 program committee and will be approved based on the availability of demo space as well as on the following criteria:

  • Extent and significance of the research contribution or insights into best practices
  • Potential impact on the audience
  • Quality and depth of the proposed implementation

Accepted demo papers will be published in the conference proceedings. At least one author of an accepted demo must register for the conference at the full rate, give a short introductory talk, and present the demo (live demo, VPN connection to home lab and/or prerecorded parts, optional poster, etc.) at the IEEE WFCS 2026.
